Art of Libraries

2018-2019

During this project I worked as a Creative Catalyst for Create Gloucestershire to support Gloucester, Dursley and Matson libraries to develop their creative offer to local residents, particularly focussing on engaging young people with the arts.  We developed wearable art workshops, carnival entries, artist residencies to name a few, but more than anything the support to library staff to develop their skills and confidence in providing exciting and invigorating creative opportunities.

Art of Libraries (AoL) was an exciting test programme led by Create Gloucestershire in partnership with Gloucestershire Libraries, Barnwood Trust and Real Ideas Organisation. With support from Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, Arts Council England, Ernest Cook Trust, the Summerfield Trust and other local community funds over three years.

The goal was to explore the potential for libraries to be hubs for introducing arts and culture to children and young people especially those who do not currently engage with the sector.
